Temperature Loggers

Zespri has an extensive temperature monitoring program to ensure cool-chain is maintained through the whole logistic life of a pallet. Zespri use predominately two temperature logger types for either just recording container temperature history and/or pallet temperature history.

HiTag2 (Xsense)

HiTag is a series of wireless radio frequency (RF) temperature and humidity data loggers that Zespri use to monitor cool-chain in approximately 10% of pallets.

The loggers are placed in the centre of the pallet approximately the same height as the pallet card at time the pallet is being created.

Pallets can be identified with the visual corner board indicator “RF”.

When the logger is within range of a HiTag receiver, the data is transferred automatically to allow Zespri to review the data.

The data is mainly captured from Suppliers and Zespri distribution hubs.

If you receive a pallet with a HiTag2, we don’t require you to do any further work in retrieving the data.

TempTale

Zespri use TempTale loggers to capture the warmest air temperature in a reefer container. This data is used to monitor overall reefer performance and used for insurance purposes.

Note: By downloading the TempTale loggers into Coldstream, you help Zespri by further optimising overall container performance to your region.

Zespri currently use two types of TempTale loggers the TempTale4 which requires to be manually downloaded via a cradle and saved to the Coldstream/Zespri portal and a TempTale RF that automatically downloads the information into the Coldstream/Zespri portal if logger is within range of a CU.

Every container from New Zealand have one TempTale logger placed on one of the pallets near the door. Northern hemisphere supply use two loggers to verify cold treatment. One in the same location near the door (logger 1) and the other down near the refrigeration unit (logger 2).
